Reviewer Comments: A Lady of Hidden Intent by Tracie Peterson is about a young woman who trusts in God to see her through the hard times surrounding her father’s arrest and her forced exile from England to America.
Catherine Newbury lived a life of luxury and careless enjoyment until the night she overheard her father having a conversation with his business partner. The police are on their way to arrest her father, Nelson Newbury, for being co-owner of a slave ship. Mr. Newbury refuses to run, as he has done nothing wrong, but insists that his only living child go to America until he straitens out the misunderstanding with authorities.
Catherine enjoyed one last party, before overhearing this conversation; a party where she meets American architect, Carter Danby.
The story then jumps to five years later. Catherine is a dress designer in an American shop. Her fashions are sought after, but her soul is lonely and worried. Her father is in prison for a crime he didn’t commit and Catherine is looking for a way to prove his innocence.
Mr. Danby enters her life again, this time guaranteed to rock her to the foundation. With her firm belief in God to keep her steady, she faces jealousy, loneliness and love. The key to her future happiness is faith.
Ms. Peterson has written a lovely and inspirational story about the power of faith and love. The characters are enchanting and the setting extremely realistic. The story is light but woven together by many different story threads. It is encouraging and an enjoyable story.
