Reviewer Comments: Cassie Stover is a pleasant, charming but innocent young woman who is lucky to become the companion of one Mrs Jameston. Two weeks into her new role, Cassie has to deal with her friend’s son, Sebastian. Mark Langford is an insurance investigator who was devastated by the death of his friend. Mark meets Cassie when she exits the house and faints at the sight of his horse. Mark realizes he can use Cassie to help him gather information about Sebastian Jameston and ensure he goes to jail.
There is a certain believability in the characters in this setting and enabled the story to be told. There is definitely nastiness surrounding Sebastian Jameston as opposed to the inherent goodness of his mother, Cassie and Mark. This nastiness is epitomized by the way in which Sebastian treats his mother despite her continued love for him.
The relationship between Mark and Cassie develops and provides each of the characters with the love of their life. Of course, in such a plot, there are the times their lives are in danger and must try to find their way back to each other. Elida, Cassie’s sister, provides some relief for the adults and their situation. There was a satisfactory ending for the main and many of the secondary characters.
